Advisory Board Meeting
Prof Maurice Grech presented the progress of the project to date to the Advisory Board members including Perit Anthony Sammut from the Regulator for Energy and Water Services and Dr Julian Mamo who represented the Energy and Water Agency.
Dr Paul Refalo discussed the proposed life cycle analysis of the photocatalytic units. This study will determine when the initial investment will be paid back both financially and in terms of its beneficial effects on the environment. Perit Sammut and Dr Mamo described further studies which must be carried out to ensure the effectiveness and applicability of the developed units.
Steering Committee Meeting
Dr Alessandro Di Mauro and Mr Clayton Farrugia presented some of the key experimental results. Mr Farrugia also presented the results of the aging tests, where the best performing mineral based surface for the degradation of organic molecules and bacteria was identified. This will lead into the next stage of the project, where panels of the best performing material will be produced and installed in a prototype solar greywater reactor.
Dr Alex Rizzo (MCAST) and Dr Maria Antonietta Buccheri (UniCT) provided details about the upcoming water conferences at MCAST and Universita’ degli studi di Catania. During these conferences the progress of the project will be presented to the public. The target audience will be current and prospective students of both institutions who have an interest in water research and in materials for environmental reclamation. The MCAST conference will take place on 18th October 2019 and that at UniCT will be on 11th November 2019. Further details will be provided closer to the dates.
