The sixth steering committee meeting was held at the Museo Della Rappresentazione in Catania on the 27th of January 2020.
Dr Giuliana Impellizzeri (CNR) welcomed all the participants and asked Prof Maurice Grech (UM) to discuss the progress made to date and the upcoming tasks. Ms Sarah Borg (UM) presented the updated financial situation of the project and addressed any queries brought up by the project partners.
Dr Paul Refalo (UM) discussed the outreach activities held to promote the project, namely the public seminar during the MCAST Water Conference and the seminar for students and researchers organised by the Universita’ Degli Studi di Catania. He remarked on the sizable audience for both events and the interest shown by the attendees. Dr Refalo discussed the manuscripts submitted for the IWA World Water Congress 2020. The submissions, titled New Hybrid Materials for Water treatment (CNR) and Aging of Anodic Titanium Dioxide Arrays for Greywater Reclamation (UM) reported the findings of the project to date. A further two abstracts will be submitted for the 11th European Conference on Solar Chemistry and Photocatalysis: Environmental Applications (SPEA) , with contributions from CNR and a joint submission by MCAST and UM.
A group discussion was held focusing on the prototype units and the subsequent development of the final treatment unit. Mr Clayton Farrugia (UM) described the process used to upscale the production of titanium dioxide nanotube arrays on a titanium substrate. Dr Luciano Falqui (Plastica Alfa) presented a model of his design of the photocatalytic filter system. Ing Ryan Xuereb (Econetique) delivered a presentation showing the conceptual design of the standalone greywater treatment system being developed.
